PRP Skin Repair

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Acne scars can be disfiguring and embarrassing for those who suffer from them. It’s like wearing a badge on your skin telling the world about your battle with acne. Unfortunately, there is no makeup in the world that can correct deep, pitted acne scars to the point of making them disappear. The only way to fully get rid of acne scars is to undergo an in-office procedure. Until now, laser treatments were the only trusted way to erase acne scars. Clear Clinic is thrilled to offer our acne scar patients a new skin rejuvenating treatment that will naturally fix their acne scars: PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma. This new treatment harnesses the power of growth factors in your own blood to rejuvenate and correct the skin. Our PRP kit uses the MAGELLAN® technology by Arteriocyte, treating dermal defects such as acne scars.

How PRP Works

Platelet Rich Plasma injections with SELPHYL use a special technique to create a gel-like substance rich in growth factors, made from your own blood, to be injected into your acne scar sites. One of our licensed health care providers will draw blood from your arm. That blood will then be spun in a centrifugation system to identify the Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) within your blood sample. The white and red blood cells are weeded out, so only PRFM is kept. The PRFM contains a host of growth factors that promote wound healing and regenerate the growth of collagen and elastin to the area it is injected.

BELOW ARE THE GROWTH FACTORS CONCENTRATED IN PRP:

1.Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) plays a significant role in the regulation of cell growth, proliferation and differentiation during the remodeling phase. Stimulates keratinocyte and fibroblast production.

2.Transforming Growth Factor (TGF) promotes angiogenesis which is the physiological process involving the growth of new blood vessels.

3.Vascular Endothelial Growth Facor (VEGF) an important signaling protein involved in both vasculogenesis and angiogenesis that may help the growth of blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature.

4.Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) promotes angiogenesis, granulation, and epithelialization for the intricate process of tissue repairing itself after injury.

5.Interleukins, Macrophages, Keratinocytes, Endothelial Cells, Lymphocytes, Fibroblasts, Osteoblasts, Basophils, Mast Cells activates fibroblast differentiation. Induces collagen and proteoglycan synthesis for healthy cell production and repair of damaged tissues.

6.Collagen Stimulating Growth Factor (KGF) stimulates granulocyte and macrophage proliferation for the growth of healthy tissue and blood cells.

7.Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF) keratinocyte migration, differentiation, and proliferations may optimize conditions for healing and the generation of new skin.

What to Expect During Your PRP Treatment

When you arrive for your appointment, your blood will be drawn by one of our licensed health care providers. The amount of blood drawn depends on the amount of acne scars you are having treated. The blood is then put into the patented centrifugation system to convert it into PRFM. This process takes about six minutes. Once finished, the PRFM is injected into the acne scar areas. The whole appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. There is 2-3 days of downtime associated with PRP application to the skin; however in cases where the plasma is injected for facial volume enhancement, you can go back to work or out with friends directly following the injections.

What Are The Risks With Platelet Rich Plasma?

Since PRP injections uses your own blood to naturally rejuvenate the skin, there is virtually no risk of allergic reaction. There is also no lumping that can sometimes occur with a synthetic filler. There is very minimal pain involved with PRP. The treatment is very quick and the needle use to inject the acne scar sites is very tiny. While there is no downtime, some swelling and bruising may occur. Cool compresses are applied to the skin immediately following treatment to help with swelling or bruising.

When Can I See Results from PRP?

If applied topically after resurfacing, the results become evident in 2-3 days. For facial volumizing, some plumping of the skin can be seen immediately. For full results, expect up to three weeks to pass.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

The number of treatments varies by patient. Typically, one to three injection sessions are recommended. Each treatment should be spaced four weeks apart. Your doctor and acne specialist will discuss your treatment plan with you during your first visit.
